Thanksgiving weekend has a way of slowing everyone down, even in a business that rarely stops. Between the turkey, the pie and the drive to see family, there's finally a moment to look back on the year and notice what we're thankful for.
Real estate moves fast. Offers come in late at night, conditions have deadlines, and closing days arrive before anyone feels quite ready. It's easy to get caught up in the next showing or the next signature and forget to pause. So this weekend, we're doing exactly that. This year, our list is a long one.
Thank You to Our Clients
Buying or selling a home is one of the biggest decisions most people ever make. It comes with excitement, nerves, late night questions and, sometimes, a few tears. Every client who chose to work with us this year trusted us with something that mattered deeply to them, and we don't take that lightly.
We think of the first time buyers who couldn't stop smiling when they got their keys, the families who found room to grow, and the sellers who said goodbye to a house full of memories so they could start their next chapter. We think of the clients who were patient when the right home took longer to find than they hoped, and the ones who trusted our advice even when it wasn't what they wanted to hear.
Being part of those moments is the best part of what we do. Thank you for letting us in.
Thankful for Every Referral
Some of the most meaningful messages we receive start with, "My friend told me to call you." There's no higher compliment in this business than being recommended by someone who has already worked with us.
To everyone who passed our name along to a sister, a coworker, a neighbour or an old friend this year: thank you. Your trust is the reason our business keeps growing, and we work hard to make sure every person you send our way feels as well looked after as you did.
Thankful for What Home Means
After enough showings and closings, it would be easy to start seeing houses as square footage and price points. But this time of year is a good reminder of what a home really is. It's the kitchen where everyone ends up standing, even when there are perfectly good chairs in the next room. It's the table that never quite fits everyone but somehow always does. It's the front door that opens to the people you love.
It's also the quieter things. The porch where you drink your morning coffee. The hallway with the pencil marks tracking how tall the kids have grown. The window that catches the best light in the afternoon. Those details rarely show up in a listing, but they're what make a house feel like yours.
Whether you've been in your home for a few months or a few decades, we hope it's full this weekend.
Grateful for Our Nova Scotia Communities
A house becomes a home because of what surrounds it. The neighbour who shovels your driveway without being asked. The coffee shop that knows your order. The farmers market, the hockey rink, the walking trail and the corner store. The fall fairs, the fundraisers and the small town events where it feels like everyone knows each other.
Nova Scotia is full of communities that welcome people in, and we feel lucky to help families find their place in them, from the South Shore to Cape Breton and everywhere in between. Whether someone is moving across the province or from the other side of the country, watching families settle in and start to call a new place home never gets old.
Thank You to the People Behind Every Move
No real estate deal happens alone. Behind every closing is a group of people working hard to get it across the finish line: lawyers, mortgage brokers, home inspectors, appraisers, contractors, movers and the administrative support that keeps every detail on track.
Most of their work happens behind the scenes, and our clients may never see it. They answer the late emails, chase down the last missing document and make sure deadlines are met so moving day goes smoothly. We see it, and we're grateful for every one of them. Our clients are better served because of the people we get to work alongside.
A Little Gratitude for Your Own Home
If you're spending the long weekend at home, it might be a nice moment to appreciate your own space a little. Light a candle, set the table with the good china, or take a walk around the neighbourhood while the leaves are at their best. Think about what you love most about where you live, and what you'd want in your next home someday.
Gratitude has a funny way of clarifying things. Sometimes it reminds you how much you love where you are. Sometimes it shows you exactly what you're ready for next. Either way, it's worth noticing.
Looking Ahead
As the leaves turn and the year starts winding down, we're thankful for every conversation, every question and every connection that came our way. If a move is somewhere on your horizon, whether that's next month or a few years from now, we're always here when you're ready to talk. No pressure, just a conversation.
From all of us at Selling Above the Crowd, Happy Thanksgiving. We hope your weekend is full of good food, good company and plenty to be thankful for.
