Tucked between the North Mountain and the South Mountain, the Annapolis Valley is Nova Scotia's heart of farms, orchards and vineyards. It offers small town warmth, wide open space, a growing food and wine scene and some of the province's best value, all within about an hour of Halifax for much of the Valley. We love introducing buyers to this part of the province.
The Valley is one of the oldest settled regions in North America. Acadian farmers built dykes to turn tidal marshland into fertile fields, and in 2012 the Landscape of Grand Pré near Wolfville was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site, honouring that farming legacy and its importance as a place of remembrance for the Acadian people. Annapolis Royal, once Port Royal, served as the early capital of Nova Scotia. Apple growing boomed in the late 1800s with the arrival of the railway, and the orchards are still the Valley's signature today.
Wolfville and the surrounding area are the centre of Nova Scotia's wine country, with wineries, cideries and craft breweries alongside farm markets and u pick orchards. For more, read our post on Nova Scotia's wine country. Outdoors, Blomidon Provincial Park looks out over the Minas Basin and the Bay of Fundy, home to some of the highest tides in the world, and the Harvest Moon Trailway runs about 110 kilometres from Grand Pré to Annapolis Royal past farms, orchards and vineyards.
If you are posted to 14 Wing Greenwood, the surrounding communities of Greenwood, Kingston, Middleton and Berwick offer a range of housing options, schools and amenities close to the base. Moving on a posting timeline comes with its own pressures, and we are always happy to help you plan ahead.
Public schools in the Valley are run by the Annapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education (AVRCE). Post secondary options include Acadia University in Wolfville and Nova Scotia Community College campuses in the region. Please confirm the schools for a specific address with AVRCE before you buy.
Highway 101 runs the length of the Valley and connects it to Halifax. Wolfville and Windsor are roughly an hour or less from the city, making the eastern Valley a realistic option for commuters and remote workers alike.
As of late October 2026, there are about 790 homes, townhouses and condos for sale across the broader Annapolis Valley region, with an average asking price around $480,000. In the main towns, from Windsor and Wolfville through Kentville, Berwick, Middleton, Greenwood and Annapolis Royal, there are about 150 listings averaging close to $540,000. For buyers coming from Halifax, the Valley often means more house and more land for the money. Learn more in our guide, Living in the Annapolis Valley: A Guide for Homebuyers.
