Thirsty? Whether you’re into craft beer or handcrafted cocktails, we’ve got you covered. Sip on a beautifully crafted drink at Dear Friend Bar, or try one of Battery Park’s 20 rotating local Nova Scotia brews.

 

Walkable, Scenic, and Full of Character

With a walk score of 84, Downtown Dartmouth is one of the most pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods in HRM. Who needs a car when everything you need is just a short stroll away?

Make sure to visit Sullivan’s Pond, a peaceful green space where you can have a picnic and watch the famous gaggle of geese waddle across the crosswalk (yes, they actually use it).

Skip the Traffic—Take the Ferry

Not a fan of driving? Hop on the Alderney Ferry for just $2.75 and enjoy a scenic 15-minute ride across the Harbour to Halifax. Alderney Landing itself is a hub of activity, hosting concerts, local events, and two incredible markets:

Both Downtown Dartmouth and Downtown Halifax offer stunning oceanfront condos—but Dartmouth’s come with a lower price tag.

  • Downtown Dartmouth (Zone 10-C): $427,254
  • Downtown Halifax (Zone 2 - South End): $604,793

That’s a pretty big difference. If you're looking for waterfront living, check out buildings like King’s Wharf, The Avery, and Admiralty Place, all offering ocean views with easy access to downtown essentials.

 

Love History? We’ve Got That Too

Not into modern condos? No problem. Downtown Dartmouth is home to some of the oldest, most charming houses in HRM. One standout is the Quaker Whaler House, built in 1786 on Ochterloney Street. While it’s now a museum, there are plenty of other historic homes available.

I became interested in rich history of the properties in Downtown Dartmouth after listing 190 Windmill Road this past summer. Fully restored and the building age unknown, this home withstood the Halifax Explosion. This is a photo of this very home taken after the Halifax Explosion in 1917  and still hangs in the beautifully restored living room today.
